Hemingway - Safari Writing Desk

Safari Writing Desk

It is said that Ernest Hemingway is responsible for popularizing the Swahili word “safari” in the English language through his stories and novels. In the Swahili language, Safari means “long journey.” In his lifetime, Hemingway went on two major East African safaris, the first in 1933 with second wife, Pauline, and again in the winter of 1953-54 with fourth wife, Mary. Among Hemingway’s most famous works inspired by his first safari are The Green Hills of Africa (1935) and short stories “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” and “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.”
