Ernest Hemingway first traveled to Kenya and Tanganyika in 1933 with second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer. Not only did he experience his first safari during this trip but he also spent several weeks in Nairobi where he and Pauline met other adventurous travelers. Hemingway traveled again to Kenya for a second and final time in the winter of 1953-54 with his fourth wife Mary Welsh.
