Del Mar is a famous thoroughbred racetrack where Bogart and other big-name celebrities spent time watching the races and betting on the horses. Del Mar's seaside locale near San Diego was an easy getaway from the prying eyes and cameras of Hollywood. Thoroughbred racing was one of the most glamorous of sports, and along with Santa Anita and Hollywood Park racetracks, Del Mar was popular with the Hollywood set of the 1930s and 40s.
