- At the convergence of Hollywood and Vine streets, some of the earliest Hollywood landmarks were designed by noted architects and erected in the 1920s and 30s – The Equitable Building, built in 1929; the Taft Building, which housed the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences from 1935 - 45, and where Charlie Chaplin and Will Rogers kept offices. The Pantages Theater was built there in 1930 and it is there that the Academy awards were held from 1949 – 1959, and where Bogart received his Oscar. The renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame is centered on this intersection.
